The #1 problem with diets – most of which are restrictive, which means you are hungry all the time. Think about this: Want to lose 10lbs? (law of averages) You must reduce your caloric intake by 3500 calories a week (reduce 500 calories per day for 7 days equals 3500). The action piece is most likely to skip a meal per day or significantly reduce to smaller healthier meals throughout the day. Result? You lose a single pound maybe more in your first week. Hence, you see that it works, and you gain the motivation to continue. Adding further to this example, you start to implement an exercise program from your coach. You start to see additional results, like feeling strong physically and mentally. You are now getting compliments from friends and family. Hence, the motivation is strengthened. In addition, you are now becoming consistent (showing up, being accountable, integrity; making healthy choices when no one is watching) Over time, this will create a “compound effect” that slowly becomes habitual, by then, you are starting to create that active lifestyle you always wanted.
Where does Will Power play in this?
It doesn’t, taking Action is the common denominator.

And the thing about willpower is that it’s very, very finite.
Willpower may serve you for weeks or even months, but eventually it fails.
Every. Single. Time. Why?
In my years of coaching dozens of clients and members, where I see “will power” playing a role is in your intention. With intention (regarding your health & fitness) it is understanding the function of the exercise, preparing the body/mind, being confident in the required breathing, timing and form, and then committing yourself. In other words, ” your intended purpose, design, or aim or your will, wish, or desire, that which is intended”. You have made a decision, or a choice and you intend to follow through with it. Trying to do this consistently is where I see failure, all the time.

Because it’s not meant to sustain you forever.
Complete lifestyle change. The decision to live differently. The daily practice of commitment and action and dedication.
Those are the things that get you long-term results and change – not willpower.
