Wanted to check in with everyone and see how you are now settling in with this new temporary norm.
As the weeks in global quarantine are passing by, many of us have settled into a new normal. One without gyms and dining out and going to offices. One with more family, more time to focus, and more time to aspire for greater things in life.
But on the other hand, more time to watching the news, watching too much TV, too much social media, overindulging in mindless eating, etc.…
As for me, I have made some personal discoveries about myself while at home. Yes, I am still working (telecommuting mostly), had I lost my sense of direction of my purpose in this life. My purpose (which I shared not too long ago) regarding my personal journey of helping others in need.
At the start of this pandemic, we closed our studio and moved it to our property (2 car garage that I am currently remodeling). I was actually excited about this change because now we can do everything from our home. But, as the move has progressed, and I have been home quarantined, my mindset, purpose, and drive has dwindled away. Totally off track from where I was when we had the studio.
What got me back on schedule?
Exercise. Yep, getting my training done on a daily basis. My wife and I created a training space for 2 in our back yard (while the remodel is ongoing). Let me tell you, after my first session, (a little sore) I felt amazing. It added extra energy to my day and got me right back on track. Adding to this, I eat better, knowing that I am capitalizing on my training with good nutritional choices. My mindset has improved, and I am better focused throughout my day.
For a lot of us,
We’re in this in between space walking this strange thin line… One of fear mixed with enjoyment. One of panic but also calm. We’re in a time knowing things aren’t normal but they will eventually be normal again. What do you think your new normal will look like? What do you want It to look like.
The in between – the not knowing when things will go back to normal can be agonizing. The hard part about this for so many people is that it’s entirely out of our control. We want to control. We want certainty.
And it is simply impossible to control a pandemic. Really, we are always kind of under the delusion that we’re in control of our own world. Some people are using this opportunity to step up their life’s game – they’re creating new businesses, getting back in shape (mind & body), or working on projects that have been on the to-do list forever.
Others are paralyzed by fear due to losses of a job or the complete lack of familiarity in how we’re living right now.
It’s all ok. There’s no right or wrong response to an experience none of us have ever had before. Maybe you can do what I did or take a hard look at what you are doing and start to make some changes. But I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…
It will pass.
This new temporary normal. We will always be impacted by these events, but my hope is that it’s all for the better on the other side…and I really believe it can be.
So, when you’re finding yourself torn or paralyzed by the state of the world, the news, and the 4 walls of your home, go inward. How can you choose to make this the best possible, growth-oriented experience for yourself?
