Is this you?
I know what I need to do, I know what numbers to hit, I know meal prep helps me stay on track, I know I shouldn’t buy all the treats when I go shopping… So how do I make myself do it?”
This is a common nutrition issue I see all the time. Coaching and mentoring at KALFIT for the last 6 years, I have come to understand that when it comes to eating, it is an exceedingly difficult thing for most. And now it’s even more challenging being stuck at home due to COVID19.
But here’s the deal, it’s all about making a decision. Yes, that is right. When it comes time to make a decision about food choices, you make a decision different than you normally do.
For example:
Instead of finishing off the box of cereal in the morning, you choose a couple of pieces of fruit. Instead of going down the aisle with your favorite chips, you skip it entirely. When your friend asks if you want to split the fried-whatever, you say no thank you. You make the decision that is in line with your goals.
Hence, your actions/decisions regarding your eating habits must be aligned with your nutrition.
In retrospect, your whole life is based on decisions you made or didn’t make. Your current health right now (good or bad) is based on decisions you made years ago.
Think of it this way; you are where you are in your life right now due to a series of choices you made. You have Inflection points (difficult moment) did you choose to address the issue or avoidn it; what decision did you make? It is this very thing that keeps us on track or slowly draws us to failure.
I think too often people are waiting for a feeling or motivation. I’ve posted about motivation before; it’s fleeting and unreliable. Remember, motivation comes from results, and results comes from taking action. Staying on track with nutrition is just decision making (it has nothing to do with motivation). Make a decision and move on. And the more you do it in the favor of your goals, the easier it becomes.
Simple tips to get you started (video link here) “how to get started & what happens next”
Many of the best, fastest, and healthiest meals require absolutely no recipes, no prep work, and really, not a whole lot of thought!
If you’ve got some kind of protein, vegetables, oil or water, a little salt and pepper, and a pan or grill, you’ve got a healthy meal coming your way in a matter of minutes.
Seriously…who doesn’t love a grilled dinner!?
You can mass grill (or even bake) your proteins – whether meats, seafood, or protein alternatives and piles of veggies all at once with hardly any prep or clean up.
This isn’t rocket science I’m sharing with you today but rather a reminder that healthy is accessible all the time, even if your forced to stay home during this pandemic.
And guess what!
You can apply the same concepts when dining out.
You can get grilled protein and veggies anywhere.
You can get salads with protein and lite dressings or balsamic vinegar at fast food restaurants now.
Healthy is EVERYWHERE “if you choose it!”
